Great Moments in Music Awesomeness

Posted on: 2 Comments

Here’s a post I update on an on-going basis. Great Moments in Music Awesomeness is my list of favourite hooks, transitions, bridges, choruses, beats etc… Some great moments will undoubtedly come from great hits. Others will come from songs and singers and bands I’d otherwise probably be embarrassed to admit to liking. In some cases it will have a very clear reason for being on the list, for others, the only criteria may be that it just conveys a sense of awesomeness that only music can.

Things I Like

A Legend

Sometimes life feels like it’s blurring by at a dizzying speed and only gets faster as you get older (I have a theory about this which I’ll write about sometime). There is the occasional moment, though, when it seems that time stops or at least slows down, and you pause. Reflect. And think. Wow. I really like this. Taking this lead, I’m going to try to slow life down and take the time to soak in and appreciate life’s better moments. With that, I’m introducing “Things I Like”. Following a similar theme as “Goes Good with Coffee“, “Things I Like” is a little about indulging and enjoyment. But it’s also a way to remind myself of the things worth slowing down for, or things to just appreciate for whatever it is about it I like.

The White Spot Legendary Platter

First up is White Spot‘s Legendary Platter. The Legendary is a bare bones burger – bun, patty, bun. But ask any die hard fan what makes a Legendary Burger and you’ll be sure to hear about the “Triple-O” sauce. Fans like to play up the mysterious nature of the sauce’s ingredients, while indifferent bystanders will tell you straight up that it’s nothing more than some combination of ketchup, mayonnaise and red relish. Even so, rumours abound as to what makes the Triple-O the signature sauce of some of the best burgers in BC.

For me, the goodness is more than just the burger. When I go to White Spot, I relish (pun intended after the fact) the full course experience:

  • Cup of clam chowder
  • Legendary platter (or some other Triple-O based burger platter)
  • Coke & glass of water

For me, that 3-part combo is almost like a triple-o sauce of its own. White Spot’s clam chowder soup has taken flack over the years (“There was a time once when it actually came with clams,” you’ll often hear, half said with jest but with some merit.). It can’t be denied, though, that it is an excellent tomatoe-based soup and a great way to kick off a meal.

Another key part of this meal for me comes within the platter. The combination (yet again in 3′s) of the french fries with vinegar and ketchup, the scoop of coleslaw, and then the burger itself all amounts to one hearty and tasty main course.

Throw in the Coke for good measure with a water as well, and you have the perfect bevvies to wash it all down. (In spite of my beer-loving ways, I have to say that a Coke actually goes better with this meal than the Nat’s Pale Ale. Blame it on childhood tradition.)

When I walk away from that meal, I’m a happy man. Simple pleasures :)

101 Things To Do In My Lifetime

Posted on: 1 Comment

I don’t know where exactly the impetus for this is coming from, but I know I’ve thought about this list before, and I thought about it again tonight while looking at my blog. So I figured, heck, I may as well use my blog as the place to keep track of the list. What list? THE List. The list of all the things I want to do in my lifetime.

Some of these are short term goals I’ll be able to check off any day, others are longer term and will require some steps or planning. Some are dead easy no-brainers, others will be a challenge. It’s not all here yet, but this is where I’ll add to it.
