CLF Digital Framework
The “CLF”, or “common look and feel”, is a set of web templates designed to help establish a collective web presence for the University of British Columbia that creates a consistent online user experience.
In the fall of 2009, we released the sixth incarnation of the CLF, which, after one year, became the most widely adopted version to date. Since launch, the CLF has been deployed on over 300 websites.
Beyond a set of web templates, the latest version of the CLF was conceived through a broader strategy that reflected the unique nature of working in a large, complex, and historically decentralized organizational environment. Our focus on building relationships with key people and teams across the university, along with establishing a set of guiding principles to help make informed decisions in a transparent way, were key factors in the successful adoption rate of the CLF.
The greatest success of the CLF is the role it has played in establishing a baseline of common web resources and infrastructure that is now enabling future growth of digital channels at the university.
